Jordan Ahli Bank Sponsors Reading Activities – Day 1

Two reading activities called Let’s Read! (يلا نقرأ) were organized by STEPS, sponsored by Jordan Ahli Bank. These activities are designed to develop an interest in independent reading during the formative school years.

On day 1, reading aloud competitions were organized at the premises of one of the charitable societies in Bal’ama in the Mafraq governorate. STEPS volunteers interacted with 43 children who took turns to read in front of their peers and ask quiz questions about what was read. Points were given for correct answers, lots of interaction took place, and many new things were learned!
A donation was made of a wooden book cabinet containing nearly 100 attractive age-appropriate books in Arabic, which the children will soon be able to borrow. Passing by the cabinet on his way back home, one of the boys excitedly pointed at one of the books saying, “I want to read THAT one!”

This is when we felt that our goal had been reached that morning: to spread the joy of reading and develop an interest in independent reading during the formative school years! Thank you, Ahli Bank and volunteers Wafaa, Luzan, Ghaida’ and Mais.
