Thanks to the support of Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation’s 2018 grant as the main sponsor, STEPS opened the 4th of seven Yalla Niqra / ‘Let’s Read’ libraries. The library is located at the Women’s Charity of Al Hashemiyah in the Ma’an governorate and contains over 160 Arabic children’s books of stories and non-fiction suitable for readers of 4 – 16 years.

Many children were gathered there when we came, all excitedly waiting for their new library. Some took part in reading activities and a quiz, while others played outside. The STEPS team of Luzan, Rasha, Sajeda and Mutaz did a great job of interacting with the children and introducing the books in a fun way.

A few days later we were informed that local officials had come for a formal opening of the library and had distributed gifts to the children.

The Yalla Niqra / ‘Let’s Read’ initiative aims to promote the joy of reading and reaches out to all 12 governorates of Jordan.
