صحتي بسمتي  Sahati Basmati / ‘My Health-My Smile’ is a program to promote dental and eye care where young children visit a dentist and an optician, which is followed by outdoor or indoor playtime and snacks. Take-home gifts include small treats, as well as a shiny new toothbrush.

Twenty-six children from Talbieh Camp participated in this month’s Sahati Basmati event in Tla Al Ali. First the children had a thorough dental check at Gardens Dental Implant Clinic and learned the importance of tooth brushing and general oral hygiene. Then they went to Alpha Opticals in Amman Mall for a basic eye test. Any suspected vision problem was reported in order for the children to be referred to an ophtalmologist for further testing.

Afterwards the team drove to the nearby Greater Amman Municipality traffic garden for some instructions on road safety and fun playtime. Healthy snacks had been kindly prepared by STEPS volunteer Manar and were much appreciated. Mai, another STEPS volunteer, did a great job of accompanying the children throughout the event and keeping them occupied during any waiting period.

Our thanks go to the health professionals, donors and volunteers who help make this regular program a success.
