The Lettuce and the Fish, a cozy restaurant in Abdoun, opened its doors to eight children from Jabal Nuzha for a look behind the scenes to see how a restaurant kitchen operates. This included the chance to watch the chef in action, to visit the food prep room and storage facilities.

The children later enjoyed a Chinese meal, which introduced them to new foods and flavors. They tried their hand at using chopsticks for the first time, which was great fun, as well as learned a few facts and figures about China and Japan.

Thank you to Akkawi Group for making it possible and to Adel, the restaurant manager at The Lettuce and The Fish, for his patient teaching.

Thank you also to volunteers Hedaia, Michael, Ala’, Range and Ayser for organizing, supervising, taking photos and interacting with the children.

“Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all.”
