Thank you again to the main sponsor of the Yalla Niqra / ‘Let’s Read’ initiative this year, Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation’s 2018 Grant. The initiative includes the setting up of and follow up visits to 7 libraries in 7 governorates, as well as a donation of 125 additional books each to 7 previously established libraries.
In December 2015 STEPS had established a library at the Holy Rock Society of Deir Alla in the Jordan Valley and they were thrilled to receive new books this month. To inform the community and to involve the local children a team of STEPS volunteers organized a FUNDAY with games and gifts. The event included science experiments based on some of the new books.
Another feature of the visit was an interactive talk about Children’s Rights which was conducted for mothers and children by Enas, a volunteer we met during a recent presentation to the Department of Social Work at Al Balqa University.
Three more sets of 125 books each were sent to Dhaher Al Saru (Jerash), Ghor Fifa (Jordan Valley) and Al Humaimah (Aqaba) to add to the libraries STEPS had established there in Dec 2016, Jan 2017 and Feb 2018 respectively.
