Thanks to a sponsorship from Jordan Ahli Bank we were able to conduct a Let’s Read activity in the town of Bal’ama in the Mafraq governorate.

STEPS volunteers interacted with 43 children who took turns reading aloud in front of their peers and asking quiz questions about what was read. Points were given for correct answers, lots of interaction took place, and many new things were learned.

A donation was made to the Bal’ama Society for Special Education of a wooden book cabinet containing nearly 100 attractive age-appropriate books in Arabic which the children will soon be able to borrow.

Passing by the cabinet on his way out, one of the boys excitedly pointed at one of the books and said: “Oh, I really want to read that one!” This is when we felt that our goal had been achieved: to spread the joy of reading and develop an interest in independent reading during the formative school years.

Thank you, Jordan Ahli Bank and volunteers Wafaa, Luzan, Ghaida and Mais, for making this event possible and helping to create readers in Jordan.
