An activity was organized to mark the World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) in Smakiyah (Karak) at the Maktabati library. Thirty children from grade 5 and grade 7 attended. STEPS organized a Read Aloud activity at a local children’s library in Mafraq governorate to mark the 2014 World Read Aloud Day. STEPS coordinated a winter distribution at the Sal Cultural Forum near Irbid in cooperation with the Faza’t Watan Campaign for 80 families who were given blankets and heating fuel (kerosene). STEPS also celebrated World Read Aloud Day at Basha’ir Al Khair Society in Sweileh. Syrian children participated by reading aloud to each other and answering quiz questions about countries of the Arab world. Thank you to Anjara Maktabati library for lending the books. In cooperation with The Alchemist Lab in Amman STEPS is offering a six-week course of Fun Science experiments to children in Anjara at the Maktabati library of the Latin School. STEPS organized a FUNDAY outing with bowling, puzzles, eye tests and lunch for 8 children from Ahbab Allah Society in Jabal Nuzha. Twenty bags of second-hand clothing and household items were taken to the Friends of Children Society in Baqa’a Camp. Two books were also given to the ladies there to promote reading. In order to benefit as many as possible, these books will be circulated on a ‘book chain’ principle, staying with each reader for two weeks before being passed on or returned.
